Explore the Zumbro River

The Zumbro River Watershed boasts world-class trout streams, a vibrant smallmouth bass fishery, miles of quiet canoeing and several high-quality rural bike trails, not to mention a state park and several county parks.

Zumbro River Water Trail  This Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MNDNR) Water Trail take you from the gently rolling hills of the high plateau through narrow limestone valleys to the Mississippi. Expect to see great blue herons, river otters (relatives of Zumbro Zoe, our ZWP mascot), beavers, dragonflies, and other wildlife. This site provides you with a canoeing map (be sure to put it in a waterproof bag) and a listing of outfitters, in case you need a canoe or transportation.

Douglas Trail  This MNDNR bicycle and walking trail stretches from Rochester, MN to Pine Island, MN, crossing or following the the Middle Fork of the Zumbro River at various places.

Oxbow County Park and Zollman Zoo  If you want to see the Zumbro River up close, go to Oxbow County Park. This Olmsted County Park has a zoo with river otters, gray wolves, prairie dogs, eagles, and other wildlife. It also has camping, picnic grounds, and miles of trails along the South Branch, Middle Fork of the Zumbro River.
