Zumbro Watershed Management Strategy and Turbidity Total Maximum Daily Load Implementation Plan Now Underway In October, Norman Senjem was hired by the ZWP to write the Zumbro Turbidity Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Implementation Plan as well as a larger, Watershed Management Strategy document. The project will go through June 2013 and seeks to include citizen involvement throughout the process. To kick-off the process, ZWP held two Watershed Colloquiums on December 14th, 2011 which allowed citizens and agency stakeholders a chance to discuss the Zumbro River and how it could be improved. The colloquiums were well attended and will be followed-up with quarterly meetings on interested citizens. Next Meeting: The next meeting to discuss the Zumbro Watershed Management Strategy will be Thursday, March 29th at 7 PM at the Cascade Meadow Wetlands & Environmental Science Center. The presentations will be held the second Thursday of each month at 7:00pm, immediately before the regularly scheduled ZWP Board of Directors Meeting. The Series will be held at the Cascade Meadow Wetlands & Environmental Science Center. In December, ZWP was notified that we will be receiving a 2012- 2014 Surface Water Assessment Grant from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. This project will monitor more than a dozen chemical and physical parameters at 13 stream sites in the Zumbro River Watershed. that monitored Nitrate and E. Meeting Schedules The ZWP Board of Directors meets the second Thursday of each month. The next Board of Directors meeting is Date: Thursday, February 9th, 2012 Time: 7:45 - 9:00 pm Location: Cascade Meadow Wetlands and Environmental Science Center (2900 19th Street NW in Rochester) All meetings are open to the public. Any member or non-member is welcome to come to learn. The ZWP Partner Advisory Committee (PAC) meetings are planned quarterly. The next PAC meeting is: Date: Thursday, May 3rd Time: 1:30-3:30 pm Location: Cascade Meadow Wetlands & Environmental Science Center (2900 19th Street NW in Rochester) PAC meetings are open to any interested member who would like to contribute to the technical discussions involving the natural resource management of the watershed. |
